ABOUT US

As teenage girls, the idea of millions of people being hungry everyday did not seem real to us because it did not directly affect our everyday lives. However, recently, on the way home from a breast cancer fund-raising walk in downtown Atlanta, everything changed. We witnessed masses of people lined up outside a local homeless shelter waiting to receive one meal.

This sight was shocking to us because we did not realize how many people living not very far from us, were living their lives on the streets. We knew then something had to be done.  At that moment we decided to go to a local McDonalds and purchase 15 gift cards valued at ten dollars each and hand them out to homeless people in the area. We wanted to give gift cards rather than money so we could assure the money we were giving was going directly towards a meal. Handing out the cards on a street corner in downtown Atlanta was a life-changing experience. The expression on the faces of the people receiving the gift cards was unlike anything we had seen before.  We can still recall the image of one man close to tears screaming "Hallelujah".  We never knew how much of a difference ten dollars, an amount that never seemed big at all to us could make a difference for so many people.

However, we did not want to stop there. We want to be able to help as many people as possible to receive at least one substantial meal a day. We also want to educate other teens on the issues of homelessness and hunger and how it can happen to almost anyone. We hope through partnering with restaurants and grocery stores we can help the growing problem of hunger.
